Arc Flash

How our client reduces Arc Flash injury risk

Did you know…

  • Arc Flashes have the highest risk of occurring in older/obsolete Electrical installations and can reach 34,000°F? That’s 4X the temp of the Sun!
  • 200+ Arc flash incidents are recorded in Canada annually; a number are fatalities.

Our client is a North American Energy provider of natural gas, crude oil and power facilities across North America highlighted with a natural gas pipeline system of 90,000+ kms which transports more than 25% of North American natural gas demand.

Client Challenge

  • HSE Risk / Reducing number of unplanned site visits and reduction in safety risks at site are paramount, this is specifically concerning during high production winter months.
  • Aging or Obsolescent Switch Gear and Motor Control Centre (MCC) Equipment is common in most remote Compressor field locations, additional maintenance and attention is required.
  • Arc flashes can generate:
    • Explosions with possible fragmentation of equipment
    • Molten metal up to 225 °C can travel up to 1000 km/h
    • Shockwaves producing extreme pressure, noise, and intense light
