The bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining complete sets of books, keeping records of accounts, and maintaining the procedures used for recording financial transactions. The bookkeeper’s duties cover all of the accounting functions in the organization.

• Maintain accounting systems to ensure effective and efficient recording of accounting transactions
• Maintain/review general ledger accounts to ensure the integrity and accuracy of accounts
• Review staff expenses and timesheets in Big Time system (project management software)
• Assist with employee health and benefit plan account
• Complete bi-weekly payroll and deductions
• Completion of monthly invoicing
• Assist in collections and payments
• Ensure tax requirements are completed on time including filing of GST, payroll and tax installments 
• Assist with tax functions as well as special projects
• Assist with preparation of accurate and timely financial statements with external CA
• Assist with monthly project cost reporting 
• Perform other assignments as directed

• Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks or similar accounting software package
• Problem solving, ability to analyze situations accurately and take appropriate action; multi-tasking
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision; ability to work well in a team
• Effective written and oral English communication
• Excellent customer service; demonstrated sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population and client base
• Modern corporate office tools practices necessary both for set up and maintenance including filing, report preparation and fiscal management; standard office software

• Demonstrated experience working in teams and working with minimal supervision or direction and problem-solving
• Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of bookkeeping experience
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting preferred.
